30 Enero: My first day at the school!

So I've decided to just write a little earlier today since I have time and because I seem to have nothing to say later at night because I am so tired. Also, I will just add onto it before I go to bed. I have realized that with a blog I can just say anything I want so I feel as if it would make this more interesting instead of just about my day.

I want to talk about the food here a little bit. I have liked everything she has served us so far. Some things more than others but I am willing to try anything! With every lunch and dinner we have ensalada (salad) with olive oil, vinegar, and salt for the dressing. You have to be sure to mix it up well otherwise you will get a very salty piece like I did today! jaja (the spanish words for haha) We tend to have a lot of soup over here which I don't mind. Surprisingly, I am the slowest eater out of all three of us! Christine usually ends up eating half of my salad because I am too full. To say I'm full in spanish you say "Estoy lleno/a". We don't have an oven here so everything is done in the microwave but usually on the stove. We also don't have a dryer so our host mom will hang them up outside to dry and it takes a couple of days for them to be dry. Our house is very cold, but so are most of the other students houses. Alot of places put heaters under tables in our rooms, or during when we eat. In our place, we have a roller heater that we can put in our rooms for awhile when we want to get warm. The shower is warm for a good 5 minutes, and then turns cold. You have to play around with the dials to get some more warm water so I tend to take really quick showers.

Today I woke up at 8am and got ready for school. Our host mom Nati left some fruit and doughnuts out for us to eat for breakfast. We met at the bus stop and we all took the 15 minute ride to school. The school is decently sized but much more spread out than ISU. We toured the main building, the library, and our classrooms. When we entered the library everyone stared at us jaja! About 50 people actually, it was a little awkward but expected I suppose. If you speak english on the streets people will look at you strangely. I believe that I have improved my spanish since I've been here. Everyone speaks it as much as possible which is a good way to immerse ourselves in their culture. I have also been thinking in spanish as well! I can't wait to see how good I will be when I come home. We don't have classes Wednesday because we are going on a tour of the old part of the city. We also don't have classes on Friday. We usually don't have them on Fridays but I've heard we might have more than usual...a little disappointing! Nonetheless, a group of us are going to Lisbon, Portugal this weekend! I am so excited! I heard it is beautiful and I get to stay in my first hostel! Hopefully we can figure out the train and such because I am sort of confused. I kind of just told the others girls to let me know what they're doing and ill go where ever! I want to travel quite a bit and there seem to be some great carnivals and festivities to see!

Christine and I are going out to eat at an asian restaurant so that should be good! We are leaving here in a few minutes to go do some shopping before then, so I will write more later! Adios!

Well I ended up buying a leather dress that I really like :) I've also gotten botas (boots) y pantalones! There things are just so cheap here that I cannot resist! The food was pretty good. I had sweet and sour chicken and some fried rice with beef. I tried some of Christines duck as well! I was sad they didn't have crab rangoons so I guess I will just have to wait :( We went back to nuestra casa and watched a few episodes of the show "New Girl" and then headed out to meet people at the cross to discuss our weekend trip! We are leaving Thursday at 2am to take a 6 hour train ride to Lisbon or Lisboa as they say in Spain. We will be staying in Yes! hostel and leaving on Sunday around 10pm and arriving in Caceres at 4am. Not alot of sleep before classes but we have decided it is definitely worth it and that we always have siesta time :)

I have class tomorrow at 11 so I am leaving mi casa at 10:15 to get to the bus stop and to get to school. Wish me luck! :) I hope this blog was much more informative than others.

29 Enero: Caminando por los calles viejos

Hola!

Sundays here are much more calm than other days. There aren't any shops open and most people seem to stay inside until after lunch. I had soup(kind of like a puree) and chicken for lunch and then I walked through the old town and took a lot of pictures. On the way home there were kids playing in the park and families going for a walk. We stopped by a little cafe and had some amazing chocolate cake! It was very dense but it was oh so good. I hope to get to church next week with the group. For dinner we had papas fritas y huevos fritas con pan y queso. Me gusta la cena mucho! Mi mamá, Nati, always has me put the glasses up on the shelf after they are done being cleaned because she cannot reach. She is great :) Christine (mi compañero de cuarto) is awesome as well! We get along great and have some good laughs.

Tomorrow is the first day for classes, so I should probably get some good sleep! More updates to come :)

Buenas Noches!

P.S. Lo siento si este es abburido para ti!

28 Enero: Festivales!

Today was very relaxing! I didn't wake up until about 1:30pm (I blame the readjusting time zones still ;) ) My roomate and I sat around until lunch was ready. We had sopa con arroz (soup with rice). It was really good! Then we met up with some of the other students and went to La Plaza de Mayor for the Sol y Musica festival. It was a really good time! We then proceeded to shop. I bought a new pair of boots! :) Then headed home for dinner around 9pm. We had tortilla de patatas (kind of like a quiche) y pan con queso(bread with cheese) for dinner. Then we went back to La Plaza de Mayor and found a cool bar where they were having a birthday party I believe and had a good time until about 1:30am.

That was my day pretty much! :)

27 Enero: First day of adventures!

Well, I'm new to this whole blogging thing but I thought I'd give it a try!

It's actually about 3:15am right now in Spain. I am definitely going to bed after this...I promise to write more interesting things later on!

Today was my first full day in Spain after a long day of travel the day before. Today, we got together with our group and met some students from our university. We purchased bus passes, library cards, and phones. I went shopping with a few girls and then went home for dinner at about 9:30pm. Some people from the group met up at 11pm and we went out to a few bars until 2:30am. I am loving the city so far and I can't wait to explore it more and travel around Europe! I haven't had any problems with the food. Me gusta mucho! There is a festival tomorrow that I'm going to, otherwise, it's a free day of shopping and adventures!

Buenas noches!
