Semana Santa!

Easily one of the best spring breaks ever! I went to Paris, Florence, Venice, and Rome with three other girls in my group. We started off in Paris and as soon as we arrived we were able to see the top of the Eiffel Tower. We thought it was only a 17 minute walk so we decided to chase it. An hour had passed and we still had not found it so we turned back and called it a night. The next day we woke up and tried getting into The Louvre for free with our ISIC cards but they wouldn't let us so we went to the Notre Dame Cathedral where I lit a candle, the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees street with all the famous stores, and the Eiffel Tower. Everything was so amazing! Perfectly crafted and nothing like I have ever seen before. It was a pretty chilly day so we went into a few cafes to keep warm. The best part of my day was being able to meet up with the Aquino family! We took the metro back to their apartment and had wine, bread, and cheese while reminiscing all the good times. At this point, I started to feel quite ill so the next day the other girls went into the Louvre while I stayed back and continued to rest before our flight to Florence.

In the airport we saw a lot of people getting their bags checked so we freaked out a little and started to layer on all of our clothing. Sweatpants over jeans and leggings used as belts. Everyone was staring at us but hey we made it through without having to pay 60 euros to check our luggage! I felt even sicker than before as well...The next day the other girls went to Pisa to see the leaning tower but once again I stayed back to rest. When they returned we decided it would be a good idea for me to go see the doctor. We think it was a parasite from Africa that was making me sick so the doctor gave me 4 medications to take. The hostel we stayed in was super sketchy and even one more morning there was no water so we had to go somewhere else to get ready for the day. We went to the Accademia Museum and I was able to see the famous statue "David" by Michelangelo. It was incredible how much detail there was.We also went inside the Duomo Museum and saw the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge and went up a hill to see an incredible view of the city. This part of the trip was not the best for me because I felt sick the entire time so it was hard to enjoy it to it's fullest but I was happy to be able to see all of the cool sites and eat some real italian pizza and pasta!

We then took a train to Venice. When leaving the train station in Venice I was in complete awe of the city. It was exactly what I imagined and more. There were stairs leading right into the water and all the buildings' doors opened up into the water. It was unreal! We were only in Venice for a day so we spent our time walking the city and taking pictures. One of the girls in my group actually slipped and fell into the Venice Canal. Luckily none of her things were ruined so we were able to laugh about it. I still laugh about it when I replay it in my head. For dinner we stopped at a restaurant right on the water and I ate my favorite pasta, Fettucine Alfredo, it was a dream come true!

Our next stop was Rome. The train we took was exactly like a Hogwarts train, it was so cool! Even a food cart drove by and everything! After the 6 hour train ride (it would usually be 3 hours but we saved so much money by taking this train that made more stops because we are all cheapos haha) and settling into our hotel (where we booked for only 3 people to save money so I had to hide the entire time) we found a Hard Rock Cafe and had the most amazing American meal ever. I was able to have a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and french fries dipped in ranch! That night we took our own personal walking tour recommended by Rick Steve (he makes the best travel books and one of the girls in my group is obsessed). We saw the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain (where I saw someone get proposed to and we threw in pennies and made wishes!) and the Spanish Steps. Everything was beautiful! The next day we went to get our tickets for the Vatican for Easter mass on Sunday. We then had reservations to tour the Vatican Museum but we realized that we had left the tickets in the hotel so we had to sprint through the rain to go get them because the bus system was super confusing, but we were only a few minutes late. The museum was huge and super crowded, but we got to see everything and it was so cool! The Sistine Chapel was incredible! I can't believe that Michelangelo painted it all by himself. The rest of the day we went and saw the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the inside of the Pantheon. I was also able to meet up with a friend from ISU who is studying in Whales this semester so we all went and had dinner and called it a night because we had to be up super early for Easter mass.

We woke up around 5:30am in order to get in line by 7am for Easter mass at 10:15am. When we arrived there were four lines forming so we chose one and waited until they let us in at 8:30 and then when they opened the gates they scanned us through and just like at Iowa State football games everyone was sprinting to get the best seats. We ended up in the 8th row and it was so cool! We were closer than I had ever imagined. Before mass started, there were bands proceeding in and the city was packed with people. The mass was done in Latin and I was able to see the Pope! It was so awesome to be there and see everything. I even got to have communion and at the end the Pope blessed every country in their language. It was such an unforgettable experience! That afternoon we went to Trestevere neighborhood and it was such a cute place. We climbed up a hill and got to see yet another gorgeous view. It then began to get stormy looking so we booked it back down and found a bar to hangout in until we met up with some people for dinner. After dinner we went back to the hotel and gathered our things because our flight back home was at 6:30am so we had to leave our hotel by 4am.

We arrived back in Caceres safely and on time! I am now feeling much better and I can't believe that I only have a few short weeks left! I'm really sad! I am happy that I am done traveling so I can spend these last few weekends in my home away from home. I might go to the beach for the day next weekend depending on the weather. This entire experience has made me realize that I made the best decision of my life to study abroad. I couldn't ask for anything more amazing. It was such a great opportunity and it has changed my life!

I will see you on May 3rd, America!

Sevilla, Sevilla, Sevilla!

HOLA!

I know I haven't blogged in awhile, but I've been pretty busy! I MUST blog about this past weekend though because it was my absolute favorite!

This weekend me and three of my friends went to Sevilla, Spain. It is south of Caceres. We left on Friday at about 4:00pm and arrived in Sevilla at about 7:30pm. We then had a little trouble finding our hostel from the bus station, but we asked a nice couple and they pointed us in the right direction. The hostel was only about a 7 minute walk from the station so that was super nice! When we got to the hostel, we checked in, put our stuff in our room and scoped out the hostel. This hostel was super nice and really cheap so it was perfect! We stayed in a room with 10 other people, but it really wasn't that bad. People woke up and went to sleep at different times, but it never seemed to be too big of a problem. There were only two bathrooms for all of us so we did have to wait awhile to use it, but otherwise it was a great experience! They had free breakfast and an awesome terrace on top of the building with a great view and a pool! We sat up there out first night and ate the food our moms had packed us, but unfortunately we got kicked out because it was a restaurant/bar area and you can't bring your own food/drink in. We then decided to explore a little bit. We found a huge white, modern, crazy structure a little ways down the street. I can't even explain it. It was awesome though! The streets began to fill up as the night went on as well. Sevilla is a much bigger city in Caceres so there were way more people out and about! After exploring we went back to the hostel and met a few people. They asked us if we wanted to go out with them because they had been there before and knew the city so we did. We ended up walking about 25 minutes and across the "river" (they had a lot of problems back in the day with this river so they stopped it on both ends and now it is stagnant) to the other side. We met up with a few girls from TCU who are studying abroad in Sevilla and they showed us around. We went to this super American Bar where they had flags of different sports teams on the ceilings and a different shot flavor for every state. It was very cool!

The next day we got up decently early and had our free breakfast (toast and cereal, we are all really cheap so we take all we can get!haha) and then went on the free walking tour provided by our hostel. It was a great tour! I learned a lot of things about the city and got to see some really cool monuments. The tour lasted about 3 hours so after this my legs were quite tired. We then went back to the hostel and had some lunch and relaxed in the sun on the terrace. We decided to leave around 6:00pm in order to buy some jerseys, pick up our tickets, and get to the game early. On our way, we found a sports store so we went in and bought some sweet Sevilla jerseys for a decent price! Then we took the 1 hour trek to the stadium(again, we are too cheap to take the metro...) The walk was very pleasant though! We arrived a little before 8 and when we turned the corner by the stadium, what a sight it was. There was a massive crowd of people chanting and cheering. At first we didn't quite know which team was which since they both were red, but we soon found the dividing line. Some people were lighting of flares and red smoke bombs and all sorts of things. The streets were filled with bottles and bottles of alcohol. At this point, we knew we were in for a treat! As we were walking through the crows to get to the ticket area I could feel everyone staring at us. Three blondes and a red head are kind of noticeable in the crowd. No matter what I wear they always know I'm not a spainiard! We finally got to the ticket counter and got our tickets perfectly as planned and then had some time to kill. We ended up just watching the crowd and cheering and chanting with them for about an hour until we were able to go into the game. The stadium didn't fill up until about 10 minutes before the game. It was a full house! I think it holds about 45,500 people. The "student section" went nuts with huge flags and cheering. It was incredible! Some people from Sweden sat behind us and when we asked them to take a picture (we asked in Spanish) they were like uh, in english please. It was so funny! The game was off to a good start! Until Madrid scored. For awhile there I thought it wasn't going to end well but then we got a goal to make it a tie. When we scored the crowd went crazy! Policemen lined the field in case people were to jump onto the field. In the last 5 minutes of the game, Sevilla scored again, but it didn't count. I think it might have been off-sides. The game ended up in a tie, but it was still a great time! We walked back to our hostel and by the time we got home it was about midnight so we decided to call it a night.

Sunday morning, we woke up and had our free breakfast again and headed out to mass at the World's Largest Cathedral (by dimension). We missed the mass at 10 so we waited and walked around inside until 11:30(there are several chapels). Mass was great! A very traditional Catholic mass. Of course they spoke in Spanish but I understood a decent amount! After this, we went up the 34 flights to the top of the tower. Man was it a treck...but the sight was definitely worth it! You could see everything for miles. It was beautiful. This is the point when I started to contemplate about moving to Spain after graduation. Even on my walks to school there are farms with cows! Its definitely a possibility in my book. After the tower, it was about time to head to the bus station. We grabbed ice cream on our walk home and grabbed our bags from storage at the hostel and walked to the bus station. We left around 4pm. This trip went very smoothly and I couldn't ask for a better time and friends! It was a great, unforgettable experience.

I absolutely love Spain. There is so much to see. A lot of people that we met in the hostels are in their 20's and are just traveling Europe for 6 months. I want to do this so bad! Or teach english somewhere (Costa Rica possibly?) It's such a great opportunity and something a lot of countries need. I have realized that a lot of countries in Europe are required to learn english and another language. They listen to a decent amount of American music here as well! I have learned so many things here. I am so blessed to be able to study abroad and am so grateful that I am here. I am having the time of my life.

I hope to blog more, but I am always on the go! I am heading to Africa in less than 7 hours! I can't even believe it. Besos para todos! <3

Carnaval:BADAJOZ

Well hello there! It sure has been awhile since I've written on the blog. I've been super busy with random stuff that was needed to be done for back home. I'm finally finished with all of that, so I can go back to writing on here and taking more siestas!

Instead of trying to remember the last two weeks, I'm just going to pick up from yesterday :)

Yesterday was a huge day for us, it was finally the weekend of Carnaval! Most of us decided to go to Badajoz, a town about an hour away, to join the festivities. My roomate Christine and I got dressed up in our gypsy costumes and made awesome face masks out of makeup! Here is a picture:

We all met up at the bus station at 6:45pm to hop on the buses. There were tons of people our age dressed up as well! After a sort of sickening bus ride (alot of us didn't feel so good because of the sharp turns and such) we tried following people that were dressed up to find out where to go, but we quickly realized that it was a little too early still. We found a relaxing little park to just hang out at for a couple of hours. There seemed to be a lot of people doing the same thing. There were actually a lot of kids out at this time dressed in disfraces (costumes). Once 11:30pm hit it was finally time to all gather in the plaza area. It started off just people dancing to the music coming from inside the bars and quickly progressed to big speakers outside and finally real drummers parading down the streets! It was unbelievable! It was really hard to keep everyone together because there were just so many people. I saw some pretty interesting costumes as well! Men dressed as women to girls dressed up as bumper cars! The festivities continued for hours. We eventually stopped in a bar to get warmer and danced for awhile and then some of us went to get some food while others decided to go to the bus station at 4am to take a nap. Unfortunately, when they got there the bus station was closed. I stayed out with the rest of the group and we ended up dancing down the street with a band for a good mile! It was the greatest thing ever! The locals were loving us. When that finally ended, we walked around for a little bit. The city was definitely trashed...There were piles and piles of alcohol bottles and plastic bags everywhere. You also saw a lot of people relieving themselves right in the street! Around 540am we decided to head back to the train station. Thankfully, when we got there around 6am they were just opening the doors! We all went in and found a bench to sleep on for a little while. It was freezing in there and most of us didn't bring jackets because we didn't want to carry them. We just cuddled up and took a nap. Eventually, I was so cold that I went and stood in the Cafe because it was way warmer. At about 7:10am everyone started heading out to the buses. We found our bus and got on. Right after we pulled away, we all passed out. We were so so so tired! We then arrived back in Caceres and Christine and I hurried home. Surprisingly, no one was out and about at 9am but I guess that's just Spain for ya! We got home, took our makeup off, and slept until about 4:30pm! Our house mom had gone to her Pueblo for the weekend so Christine and I went out and got some snacks and had a late lunch of postres, pop, and pizza! Since then, I've just been cuddled up in bed doing my homework and such. We just ate dinner and I'm going to finish things up, take a shower, and go to bed. School at 9am tomorrow! It's been an amazing, unforgettable weekend I must say!

Adios!

Lisboa, Portugal

Hola! I have finally found some time to be able to write about my fabulous weekend in Lisbon(Lisboa), Portugal!

Last Thursday, February 2nd, I stuffed my backpack full with clothes and others things I needed for the weekend. There were 15 of us and we met up at the cross and decided to go out for some drinks before our train left at 2am. Unfortunately, there weren't any bars open because the students had exams that week. We ended up getting some drinks at the bar in the train station and waited for a good three hours. We quickly learned that we don't need to be to the station early. The train drove up and we all got on and into two separate coches (cars) and were off! There luckily weren't alot of people on the train so we were able to get our own seats and get some rest before arriving in Lisbon at 8am.

As we were pulling up to the station I opened up my curtain and saw the most gorgeous sight ever. The ocean view was phenomenal! We then got off the train and found a little cafe near the station to try and figure out what to do for the next 4 hours before check in at the hostel. We decided to walk to the hostel and check it out.

We walked down calles (streets) of beautiful buildings and the along the shoreline. At this point, I knew this trip was definitely worth it and was going to be amazing. When we arrived at the hostel at about 9:30am our rooms were already ready and they said we could check in early. I was so relieved! We took a quick rest and unpacked a few things before heading out on a free two hour tour given by a staff member from the hostel. It was a great way to learn about the city and it's history. We learned that in the 1980's a church caught on fire because an earthquake hit and all the candles in the church fell down and set the whole town on fire. It took days to put it out and many many years to rebuild the city. They still have some remains left standing that were really interesting to see.

We then found a super cheap supermarket and got some lunch for under 4 euros and then went for a walk around town. We did some shopping, where I bought one shiny gold shirt that I love, and then went and sat on the shore for a few hours taking it all in. We met some Italian guys who actually learned English in high school and they taught us a few words in Italian.

A few of us went back to the hostel to get cleaned up for dinner and the pubcrawl that night. We had spinach soup (surprisingly good), a spicy chicken platter (absolutely delicious), and apple pie (it was more like a brownie?) for dinner. We then just hung out in the hostel until it was time for free shots at 11:30pm!  Then at about 12:30pm we left for the bars and clubs. The first few we went to weren't my favorite. They were really smokey and no one was dancing. We then proceeded to the next bar and it was crazy fun! It was a bar connected to a discoteca (disco) and it was jam packed with people. We danced the night away! They actually played a lot of american music which surprised me. They do the same in Spain as well. We left around 3am and called it a night.

We enjoyed a free breakfast at the hostel before going to the flea market at around 10pm. The flea market was huge! There was a variety of things to choose from. There were shoes, scarves, pans, jewelry, tiles and pretty much anything you can think of. I got my friend the most perfect gift while I was there!

After we got back to the hostel we all had some lunch from the supermarket again and half of the group left to go to the castle while my half of the group left for the metro station to go farther down the coast of Portugal. The metro station was really difficult to find. About an hour later, we were on the metro headed to Santa Apolonia. When we got there we immediately saw the sandy beach and took off running to the edge of the water. Many of us got our pants wet but we didn't care. It was so so beautiful. Luckily, it was a beautiful day so we had nothing to worry about. We walked down the shore and climbed some rocks out into the ocean and just sat and pondered and took some candid photos. After this, we found a McDonald's and got our ice cream fix. One worker spoke english so she took our orders separately and brought them out to our table. We then headed back to the metro station and just barely made it in time for the next one.

When we got back to our hostel we all got ready to go out for Christina's Birthday. We got a suggestion for one place but after walking all the way there we learned it was closed...a recruiter found us and we ended up eating there. It was a small but cute little restaurant. They had live music (singing and guitars) and a lot of us had to share food because it was a little expensive (at this point, I only had about 10 euros left...) A lot of people got seafood which didn't look to appetizing to me with the eyes still being on the plate.

When we arrived back at the hostel at 11pm, Alice and I decided to go out again while everyone else decided to call it a night. We ended up going to the same places as the night before, but then our guide called cabs for us and we went into the central part of Lisbon and went to a three story dance club. It was ginormous! You even get a card at the door so when you buy drinks you get the card swept and before you leave you pay at the registers on the first floor. Alice and I went with a group of guys from our hostel that were from England and a group that was from New York that were studying in Barcelona. It was a  great night! We were out until about 6am. I don't know how I survived on only a few hours of sleep the next day, but I did!

On Sunday, we packed up our things and had another free breakfast. The staff at the hostel were awesome and let us store our belongings in the basement for the day since we weren't leaving until 10pm and needed to check out by 11am. We got back on the metro to go to Belem for the day. During our short ride there our metro was stopped and a three policemen go onto the metro. They were talking in Portuguese so I had no idea what they were saying. I was a little concerned at this point...An undercover cop eventually said "Everyone check your purse for your belongings." Apparently, someone had their wallet stolen and they were either looking for that person or trying to find out more information. I'm not quite sure. It sure was scary though! When we first got there we went into the Jeronimos Monestary. The structures were so detailed and super pretty. It was another warm, sunny day! We walked along the coast and it was an amazing sight. We say a beautiful fountain, Padrao Dos Descobrimentos (a huge cross with historic figures on either side), a bridge that looked like the one in San Francsico, and the lookout castle. To climb to the top of the lookout castle you had to go up this spiral staircase, but of course people were coming down as you were going up and vise versa so it took us a good 10 minutes to get to the top. A little claustrophobic I must say! The sight from the top was absolutely amazing though. After this, we went to a famous pastry shop near the metro and got Natas (they are the famous pastry of Portugal and the best ones come from Belem.)

We took the metro back to the hostel and then grabbed some dinner from the supermarket and hungout until it was time to head for the train station. We boarded the train at about 10:30pm and woke up in Caceres at about 5am. We all had class at 9am the next and I could barely stay awake! The 5 hour siesta after lunch was plenty to catch up on some sleep :)

It was an amazing experience and I would definitely love to go back some day!

Here are some pictures! :)

1 Febrero: Old Caceres

Hola! Lo siento for not writing in my blog yesterday! I was way too tired...

Like I said, I need to write in it during the day so I don't miss out!

Today we went on a tour of the old city of Caceres. It was beautiful! More than what my pictures show...Since we had this tour we didn't have class today which is nice because usually on Wednesdays I have close from 9 until 2...no me gusta! Anyways, during the tour we went into a few museos (museums) and saw water well caves, and Spanish leaders dressed up that the KKK actually took their outfit idea from. Very interesting, but kind of creepy in a way standing there with about 10 of them dressed like that. When we got back home we had sopa de fidello (noodle soup with eggs in it) its my favorite! I didn't take a siesta today because I had some things to get organized and figured out on the computer. Then we meet up at la cruz (the cross which is a common meeting point for the group) and walked to la estacion de tren (train station) to buy our tickets for our trip to Lisbon, Portugal tomorrow! I am so so excited to do some traveling. It will be a great site and so much fun! Our group gets along so well so it works out perfectly! We are thinking about getting margaritas before our train leaves at 2am tomorrow! I can hardly wait for the trip! I don't think I'll bring my computer so you will have to wait for another blog! lo siento! We had homemade pizza and french fries tonight for dinner. I absolutely love the fries here! Probably a bad thing...jaja and the pizza was different but very good as well! We asked our host mom about all the places we should visit in Spain. So far I want to go to Valencia para las fallas, Badajoz para los carnivales, Sevilla, Costa del Sol, Barcelona y Madrid. I also want to go to Italy (I'm probably going for Spring Break!), Ireland, Germany, France and England. I don't think I have enough money for all of this though so I will have to make some sacrifices.

Well that's enough for tonight because I have to get up at 7:30am tomorrow para la escuela!

Buenas noches!

30 Enero: My first day at the school!

So I've decided to just write a little earlier today since I have time and because I seem to have nothing to say later at night because I am so tired. Also, I will just add onto it before I go to bed. I have realized that with a blog I can just say anything I want so I feel as if it would make this more interesting instead of just about my day.

I want to talk about the food here a little bit. I have liked everything she has served us so far. Some things more than others but I am willing to try anything! With every lunch and dinner we have ensalada (salad) with olive oil, vinegar, and salt for the dressing. You have to be sure to mix it up well otherwise you will get a very salty piece like I did today! jaja (the spanish words for haha) We tend to have a lot of soup over here which I don't mind. Surprisingly, I am the slowest eater out of all three of us! Christine usually ends up eating half of my salad because I am too full. To say I'm full in spanish you say "Estoy lleno/a". We don't have an oven here so everything is done in the microwave but usually on the stove. We also don't have a dryer so our host mom will hang them up outside to dry and it takes a couple of days for them to be dry. Our house is very cold, but so are most of the other students houses. Alot of places put heaters under tables in our rooms, or during when we eat. In our place, we have a roller heater that we can put in our rooms for awhile when we want to get warm. The shower is warm for a good 5 minutes, and then turns cold. You have to play around with the dials to get some more warm water so I tend to take really quick showers.

Today I woke up at 8am and got ready for school. Our host mom Nati left some fruit and doughnuts out for us to eat for breakfast. We met at the bus stop and we all took the 15 minute ride to school. The school is decently sized but much more spread out than ISU. We toured the main building, the library, and our classrooms. When we entered the library everyone stared at us jaja! About 50 people actually, it was a little awkward but expected I suppose. If you speak english on the streets people will look at you strangely. I believe that I have improved my spanish since I've been here. Everyone speaks it as much as possible which is a good way to immerse ourselves in their culture. I have also been thinking in spanish as well! I can't wait to see how good I will be when I come home. We don't have classes Wednesday because we are going on a tour of the old part of the city. We also don't have classes on Friday. We usually don't have them on Fridays but I've heard we might have more than usual...a little disappointing! Nonetheless, a group of us are going to Lisbon, Portugal this weekend! I am so excited! I heard it is beautiful and I get to stay in my first hostel! Hopefully we can figure out the train and such because I am sort of confused. I kind of just told the others girls to let me know what they're doing and ill go where ever! I want to travel quite a bit and there seem to be some great carnivals and festivities to see!

Christine and I are going out to eat at an asian restaurant so that should be good! We are leaving here in a few minutes to go do some shopping before then, so I will write more later! Adios!

Well I ended up buying a leather dress that I really like :) I've also gotten botas (boots) y pantalones! There things are just so cheap here that I cannot resist! The food was pretty good. I had sweet and sour chicken and some fried rice with beef. I tried some of Christines duck as well! I was sad they didn't have crab rangoons so I guess I will just have to wait :( We went back to nuestra casa and watched a few episodes of the show "New Girl" and then headed out to meet people at the cross to discuss our weekend trip! We are leaving Thursday at 2am to take a 6 hour train ride to Lisbon or Lisboa as they say in Spain. We will be staying in Yes! hostel and leaving on Sunday around 10pm and arriving in Caceres at 4am. Not alot of sleep before classes but we have decided it is definitely worth it and that we always have siesta time :)

I have class tomorrow at 11 so I am leaving mi casa at 10:15 to get to the bus stop and to get to school. Wish me luck! :) I hope this blog was much more informative than others.

Buenas Noches!

29 Enero: Caminando por los calles viejos

Hola!

Sundays here are much more calm than other days. There aren't any shops open and most people seem to stay inside until after lunch. I had soup(kind of like a puree) and chicken for lunch and then I walked through the old town and took a lot of pictures. On the way home there were kids playing in the park and families going for a walk. We stopped by a little cafe and had some amazing chocolate cake! It was very dense but it was oh so good. I hope to get to church next week with the group. For dinner we had papas fritas y huevos fritas con pan y queso. Me gusta la cena mucho! Mi mamá, Nati, always has me put the glasses up on the shelf after they are done being cleaned because she cannot reach. She is great :) Christine (mi compañero de cuarto) is awesome as well! We get along great and have some good laughs.

Tomorrow is the first day for classes, so I should probably get some good sleep! More updates to come :)

Buenas Noches!

P.S. Lo siento si este es abburido para ti!

28 Enero: Festivales!

Today was very relaxing! I didn't wake up until about 1:30pm (I blame the readjusting time zones still ;) ) My roomate and I sat around until lunch was ready. We had sopa con arroz (soup with rice). It was really good! Then we met up with some of the other students and went to La Plaza de Mayor for the Sol y Musica festival. It was a really good time! We then proceeded to shop. I bought a new pair of boots! :) Then headed home for dinner around 9pm. We had tortilla de patatas (kind of like a quiche) y pan con queso(bread with cheese) for dinner. Then we went back to La Plaza de Mayor and found a cool bar where they were having a birthday party I believe and had a good time until about 1:30am.

That was my day pretty much! :)

27 Enero: First day of adventures!

Well, I'm new to this whole blogging thing but I thought I'd give it a try!

It's actually about 3:15am right now in Spain. I am definitely going to bed after this...I promise to write more interesting things later on!

Today was my first full day in Spain after a long day of travel the day before. Today, we got together with our group and met some students from our university. We purchased bus passes, library cards, and phones. I went shopping with a few girls and then went home for dinner at about 9:30pm. Some people from the group met up at 11pm and we went out to a few bars until 2:30am. I am loving the city so far and I can't wait to explore it more and travel around Europe! I haven't had any problems with the food. Me gusta mucho! There is a festival tomorrow that I'm going to, otherwise, it's a free day of shopping and adventures!

Buenas noches!
