Carnaval:BADAJOZ

Well hello there! It sure has been awhile since I've written on the blog. I've been super busy with random stuff that was needed to be done for back home. I'm finally finished with all of that, so I can go back to writing on here and taking more siestas!

Instead of trying to remember the last two weeks, I'm just going to pick up from yesterday :)

Yesterday was a huge day for us, it was finally the weekend of Carnaval! Most of us decided to go to Badajoz, a town about an hour away, to join the festivities. My roomate Christine and I got dressed up in our gypsy costumes and made awesome face masks out of makeup! Here is a picture:

We all met up at the bus station at 6:45pm to hop on the buses. There were tons of people our age dressed up as well! After a sort of sickening bus ride (alot of us didn't feel so good because of the sharp turns and such) we tried following people that were dressed up to find out where to go, but we quickly realized that it was a little too early still. We found a relaxing little park to just hang out at for a couple of hours. There seemed to be a lot of people doing the same thing. There were actually a lot of kids out at this time dressed in disfraces (costumes). Once 11:30pm hit it was finally time to all gather in the plaza area. It started off just people dancing to the music coming from inside the bars and quickly progressed to big speakers outside and finally real drummers parading down the streets! It was unbelievable! It was really hard to keep everyone together because there were just so many people. I saw some pretty interesting costumes as well! Men dressed as women to girls dressed up as bumper cars! The festivities continued for hours. We eventually stopped in a bar to get warmer and danced for awhile and then some of us went to get some food while others decided to go to the bus station at 4am to take a nap. Unfortunately, when they got there the bus station was closed. I stayed out with the rest of the group and we ended up dancing down the street with a band for a good mile! It was the greatest thing ever! The locals were loving us. When that finally ended, we walked around for a little bit. The city was definitely trashed...There were piles and piles of alcohol bottles and plastic bags everywhere. You also saw a lot of people relieving themselves right in the street! Around 540am we decided to head back to the train station. Thankfully, when we got there around 6am they were just opening the doors! We all went in and found a bench to sleep on for a little while. It was freezing in there and most of us didn't bring jackets because we didn't want to carry them. We just cuddled up and took a nap. Eventually, I was so cold that I went and stood in the Cafe because it was way warmer. At about 7:10am everyone started heading out to the buses. We found our bus and got on. Right after we pulled away, we all passed out. We were so so so tired! We then arrived back in Caceres and Christine and I hurried home. Surprisingly, no one was out and about at 9am but I guess that's just Spain for ya! We got home, took our makeup off, and slept until about 4:30pm! Our house mom had gone to her Pueblo for the weekend so Christine and I went out and got some snacks and had a late lunch of postres, pop, and pizza! Since then, I've just been cuddled up in bed doing my homework and such. We just ate dinner and I'm going to finish things up, take a shower, and go to bed. School at 9am tomorrow! It's been an amazing, unforgettable weekend I must say!

Adios!
